St. Patrick's Day is also known as the Feast of Saint Patrick is a cultural and religious celebration held on the 17th of March which is the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Here are some more facts about St. Patrick's Day.
1. This day is a global celebration of Irish culture in memory of St. Patrick who ministered Christianity in Ireland during the 5th Century.
2. New York City's St. Patrick's Day Parade is one of the world's largest parades which started in 1762 where marchers trampled up 5th Ave. on foot.
3. The most part of the 20th century, St. Patrick's Day was a strict religious holiday in Ireland that pubs were closed for business. However, 1970 was the year St. Patrick's Day was converted to a national holiday and all the pubs flowed.
4. Shamrocks, the three leaf plant, were used by the saint as a metaphor for the Holy Trinity when first introducing Christianity to Ireland. 5. St. Patrick's birth name was Maewyn Succat, but he changed it to Patricius after becoming a priest.
6. Sorry guys. There are no lady leprechauns. In Irish folk tales, there are only nattily attired little men.
7. Saint Patrick didn't wear green. His color was actually blue. The color green became associated with St. Patrick's Day after it was linked to the Irish independence movement in the late 18th century.
